LEGO 76920 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Review: Just There
Pieces: 344
Minifigs: 1
MSRP: $26.99 (retired December 2025)
Theme: Speed Champions
Best For: Mustang owners and die-hard Ford fans only
I picked this one up on sale, because I do not pay full price on much of anything anymore. StudSon built it the way he builds every car set that comes through the house, immediately and without being asked twice. When he finished, he looked it over and said “meh.” That was the whole review out of him, and honestly, that about sums up my take too.

The full build with the bonus set of rims LEGO includes in the box, a nice extra for a set at this price.
The Build Experience
344 pieces, and the construction itself is solid. Nothing about the build process is a problem. The proportions come together the way a Mustang should, and it does not fight you at any stage. LEGO also throws in an extra set of rims, which is a nice touch and something you do not see in every Speed Champions box. That is a genuine plus.
Where this one starts to lose me is the finish. The stickers are the biggest issue. The blue on the sticker sheet does not quite match the blue of the bricks underneath, and on a car built almost entirely out of one color, that mismatch is hard to unsee once you notice it. The door handles, the tank details, all of it looks just slightly off. It is not a disaster, but it is distracting on a set where the paint job is basically the whole point.

The front grille and hood, easily the best-looking section of this build.
StudDad’s Take
The front grille is genuinely my favorite part of this entire build. It is sharp, it looks right, and it is the one section where the design fully comes together. I wish the rest of the car matched that level of polish.
Everywhere else, this set is just there. It is not the Back to the Future DeLorean with two great minifigures and a story behind every panel. It is not a 007 Aston Martin with decades of movie history riding on it. It is not even as fun as the recent NASCAR Chevy, which at least has motorsport energy going for it. This is a blue Mustang with no license, no film tie-in, no racing pedigree attached to the build itself. It is just a car, built well, wearing a mismatched paint job.
I paid under $20 for this on sale, which felt fine. At full MSRP of $26.99 I would have been annoyed. Now that it has retired, you are looking at third-party Amazon sellers, and those prices tend to creep up rather than down once a set is gone from LEGO’s own shelves. If you are set on owning this one, wait for it to land closer to 40 percent off whatever the current asking price is. Do not chase it at a premium.

Side profile. Clean proportions, but this is where the sticker color mismatch against the brick blue is easiest to spot.
StudSon’s Take
He built it fast, the way he builds every car set, and when it was done his reaction was just “meh.” No complaints about the build itself, no specific gripe, just a shrug. That is a rare response from him. Usually he has something he loves or something he wants changed. This time there was nothing on either side. He gave it a 5 out of 10, which for him is about as neutral a score as it gets.

The dashboard detail, including a printed Mustang Dark Horse badge tucked into the cockpit.
Should You Buy It?
Only if you own a real Mustang, love the brand specifically, or are chasing a complete Speed Champions collection. This is not a set that wins over a general audience the way the licensed film and motorsport cars in this line do. Even the minifigure is unremarkable. The Mustang branded sweatshirt is a nice detail, but there is not much else to it.
If you do decide to pick this one up now that it is retired, do not pay near what LEGO originally charged. Wait for it to dip well below MSRP on the secondary market. For most people, this is an easy skip.

The included driver minifig, branded sweatshirt and all.

The rear taillights and exhaust detail, a straightforward finish with nothing that stands out.
